Confessions of a Fashion Hound
Confessions of a Fashion Hound
With a figure that defies the laws of nature and a face that is almost supernaturally photogenic, it’s no surprise that Jane has been dubbed South Africa’s own Fashion Hound. Meet one of the most charismatic dogs in the business as she shares insight into what it takes to be a Fashion Hound.
How were you discovered?
My human is a photographer and she has been shooting portraits of me since I was a youngster. She took a portrait of me in a purple tutu in 2013 which catapulted me into the limelight. It’s a very arty shot, my fans tell me I look very regal. What does being a Fashion Hound mean to you?
Being a Fashion Hound means setting trends and being one step ahead of the crowd. I make sure I know what’s happening at Fashion Weeks around the world and you’ll find me reading British Vogue in my spare time.
What’s one of the most interesting shoots you’ve done?
The Calvin Klein shoot that the human did is probably my most interesting shoot to date. She dressed me in a foil space blanket, some Chanel-esque fabric, a woolly hat and sunglasses. To be honest I think I made it look better than the CK runway model.
Could you describe your daily routine when you do castings?
When you’re at my level there are no castings, the phone just rings.
Do you have a beauty secret?
Lots of water, plenty of sleep and a weekly facial. My sister Dora helps me with that. I also try to stay away from my younger siblings. Edward and Victoria are exhausting to be around, they constantly chatter, it’s very tiresome.
What is your dream shoot?
I’d love to be photographed by Karl Lagerfeld. In fact I’d like to be photographed dressed as Karl. I could totally work the monochrome vibe.
Darling, I am a style icon.
You have worked with Emma O’Brien several times before. What is it like to shoot with her?
An Emma O’Brien shoot is always fun, she likes to push boundaries. She does have a bit of an entourage who act like fools, but the snacks are top notch, so I can forgive her for that.
Which five words would your siblings use to describe you?
Fabulous, leggy, sophisticated, high maintenance and incredibly beautiful, oh and modest.
If you could do a shoot with any human model in the world, who would it be and why?
I’d really like to shoot with Kate Moss, I could definitely help her to up her game.
Who are your favourite fashion designers?
Describe your perfect day off when you are not modelling?
I like to head off to a swanky eatery and order smoked salmon and beef carpaccio with my super model friend Lollipop. Then we might pop into Sandton City for a spot of fashion shopping, I’m on first name terms with the staff at LV.
How do you relax?
I enjoy being brushed and massaged by the human servants whilst being spoon fed peanut butter by my beautiful Afghan Hound man friend Boris.
What’s your favourite snack?
My all time favourite snack is smoked salmon with cream cheese on french toast.
What is your mantra?
Always walk with poise and grace and remember you are the most fabulous Fashion Hound in the world.

- Cultivate a signature look, mine is ‘Vacant Vulture’.
- Make sure your coat is always shiny.
- Always be professional, I took being dressed in a paddling pool completely in my stride.
- Stipulate your snack requirements before a shoot to avoid disappointment.
- Be open to creative ideas.
